Recappit turns photographs people text us into short written stories — and, for groups that start one, into a newspaper for their family or friends. This policy describes what we collect and what we do with it.
When you text one of our numbers, we receive your phone number, your messages, and the photographs you send. When a story is written, we store the story and its connection to your number so you can retrieve, share, or delete it.
If you create an account, start a paper, or join one, we also collect your name and email address, and basic technical data about how you use the website.
Your photos and messages are used for one purpose: producing and delivering your stories and, where you have joined a paper (for example, a family newspaper), publishing those stories in that paper. If you have joined a paper, we also send you a notice when a new edition is published — by email, or by text if you choose text delivery.
We use service providers to operate this — telecommunications carriage (Twilio), website, database and file hosting, email delivery, and AI writing services — under agreements that restrict them to providing the service. Your photos and messages are not used to train AI models.
Story pages have a link and a share button. A story page can be opened by anyone who has its link: the link is texted to you, and you (or a paper you have joined) decide who else gets it. Papers are visible to their members, and a published edition can be opened by anyone its link is shared with.
Text DELETE to the Recappit number you texted, at any time, and we erase the photos, messages, and stories that number's story desk holds for you. Photos you have filed to a paper you joined belong to that paper: reply SCRAP to pull your latest, ask the paper's editor to remove anything else, or email hello@recappit.com and we will delete your information, except where the law requires us to keep it.
We keep your content while your stories or paper membership remain active, and delete it on request as above.
Recappit's texting service is for adults. Stories about family life are sent to us by the adults in that family. Recappit is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above.
